Free Tour! December 8, 2024: Culinary Cartographies of Bensonhurst's 86th Street!
Khinkali! Dapanji! Pizza! Oh my!

JOIN ME on December 8, 2024, from 12pm until about 3pm, for a free* public culinary cartographies tour of Bensonhurst’s famed** 86th Street!
86th Street defines South Brooklyn. Cutting a swath from residential Bay Ridge to the MTA’s Coney Island Yards, 86th Street anchors the area’s busiest commercial strip, and its sidewalks and side streets host more than a few outstanding eateries, including MICHELIN Guide favorite, Neta Shari. In recent years, it’s become a destination for a variety of Queens and Manhattan restaurants to open new locations - Elmhurst’s Little House Malaysian Kitchen, Bayard Street’s Yin Ji Chang Fen, and Flushing’s Nai Brother, to name a few. This tour foregrounds three cuisines which impart 86th Street with its distinct multicultural mix: Georgian homestyle cooking, Chinese regional specialties, and Italian-American favorites.
We shall meet at noon for coffee, tea, and a quick, hearty bite of Georgian food at 18th Ave Café G, and proceed down 86th Street, beneath the el, where we will partake of either Nai Brother’s signature chili sauerkraut fish or Dunhuang’s spicy big plate chicken before reemerging at Gravesend’s legendary L&B Spumoni Gardens to wrap things up with a Sicilian slice (or better)!
Please RSVP here!
*There’s no cost for the tour experience or camaraderie; if you anticipate eating, please plan to purchase your own food!

**No more double-slices at Lenny’s - they closed two years ago (and Rob’s of Brooklyn is far-and-away the best slice in the neighborhood, anyway), but there’s always a chance of a high-octane police chase under the el, so…
